A Journey of Love Turned Tragic: A Mother and Her Four Children Lost in a Fiery Crash

In an unimaginable tragedy that has shaken communities across two states, a loving mother and her four young children lost their lives in a fiery crash while traveling to reunite with their husband and father. The devastating accident on a Georgia highway left behind a tidal wave of grief and heartache, as family, friends, and strangers alike mourn the loss of five beautiful souls.

On the early morning of Sunday, April 6, 2025, 27-year-old Reagan Dougan set out on a trip filled with anticipation and love. Driving her four children — a 9-year-old son, a 4-year-old son, a 2-year-old daughter, and a 3-month-old baby — Reagan was heading south on I-95 through McIntosh County, Georgia. The young family had one simple goal: to be together again with Christian Dougan, Reagan’s husband, in Florida.
The road trip, a familiar experience for countless families, was likely filled with the usual sounds of children laughing, asking questions, and perhaps occasional sibling squabbles — small, precious moments that define family life. But in an instant, the Dougan family’s journey took a tragic turn.
According to authorities, Reagan’s rented Jeep Cherokee collided with the rear of a white Infiniti sedan while traveling at high speed. The impact forced the SUV into the center guardrail, and within seconds, it was engulfed in flames. Despite any heroic efforts that might have been made, Reagan and all four of her children perished at the scene.
The crash also seriously injured the driver of the other vehicle, who was transported to a nearby hospital. The stretch of highway was closed for nearly four hours as investigators worked to piece together the heartbreaking chain of events. The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The Dougan family had recently relocated from Raleigh, North Carolina, with fresh dreams of building a bright future. Their new neighbors were only just beginning to know them but quickly felt their warmth and joy.
Jason Flores, a neighbor, recalled the simple but meaningful moments shared: “We always waved to each other. She always had a smile on her face. The kids were always happy. Their food always smelled amazing when they cooked it.” It’s these small, everyday interactions that now feel so painfully significant.
Reagan’s dedication to her family and her infectious positivity left a deep impression on everyone she met. Christopher “Jonesy” Butler-Jones, a close family friend, spoke through tears when describing Reagan: “Her kids were her world. She was that one friend you could call in your darkest moments, and she’d bring the light back into your life.”
He added that Reagan had always dreamed of being a mother — and she lived that dream fully, pouring endless love, energy, and care into her children.

In the wake of this tragedy, Reagan’s stepmother-in-law, Sarah Stoltman, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the family’s funeral expenses and help bring Reagan and her children’s remains home to Florida for their final resting place.
The campaign’s goal of $120,000 saw an outpouring of generosity, with donations surpassing $88,000 within days. In her heartfelt message, Sarah wrote, “While Christian mourns the loss of his entire family, we want to lift some of the enormous financial burden and ensure they are honored with a dignified farewell.”
Tributes have flooded social media, from friends who knew the family intimately to strangers moved by their story. Photographer Katrina Cusatis, who had captured radiant maternity photos for Reagan just months earlier, wrote, “Their love, joy, and connection were unforgettable. My heart is broken beyond words.”
Reagan’s childhood friend Cecily Corinne Borquez shared memories filled with laughter, joy, and friendship, writing, “You were the life of the party, an absolute blast to be around. How something so tragic could happen to someone so incredible, I’ll never understand.”

Each tribute echoes the same theme: Reagan was a force of positivity, a bright light in the lives of everyone around her. Her friends and loved ones describe her spirit as “warm and comforting,” a reminder that even amid grief, her influence continues to shine.
The community continues to pray for Christian Dougan, now faced with an unimaginable grief few could fathom. While he walks a painful path ahead, he is surrounded by the love and support of those touched by Reagan and her children’s lives.
There’s a saying that those we love never truly leave us — they live on in the memories we cherish, the lives they’ve touched, and the light they’ve shared. The Dougan family, though gone far too soon, leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to ripple outward.
In the words of her friend Jonesy, “There’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. Reagan was that light for so many. Now, it’s our turn to carry it forward.”
May their memories be a blessing, and may their story remind us all to love fiercely, live joyfully, and hold our families close.
